Pepper Spray on Airplanes

What You Need to Know About Air Travel and Pepper Spray

When you travel and explore unfamiliar places, it is important to keep personal safety in mind. That means carrying products like Mace® Brand pepper spray to ensure your safety. The question is: Can you take your pepper spray with you on an airplane?

TSA Guidelines

Pepper spray is a defensive weapon, and the TSA does not allow you to carry the product on the plane with you. But you can have one 4-ounce container of pepper spray in your checked baggage. However, each airline has different rules about traveling with pepper spray.

Check Your Airline

JetBlue, Southwest, and United prohibit carrying on or checking pepper spray in your bag. However, other airlines such as American and Frontier allow you to check one 4-ounce container of pepper spray properly sealed in your bag. Keep in mind that other airlines may have different policies.  Always check with the airline the day before you travel to make sure you can check pepper spray (properly) in your bag.

If your airline does not allow pepper spray in checked bags, there are other options. When you arrive at your destination, enter its zip code and learn where you can find a retail store that sells Mace® Brand pepper spray. You can also have the product shipped directly to you.

Build your confidence. Explore Mace® Brand pepper spray to enhance your personal safety.
