How Mace® Brand Pepper Spray Stopped a Carjacking

"Elaine" was on her way home from work when it happened. An experience she says makes her think about her personal safety every day.
She was driving home from work, alone, while she was stopped at a red light. Elaine picks up the story:
"TWO ARMED MEN APPROACHED ME, THANKFULLY BOTH WERE OUTSIDE THE PASSENGER DOOR AND MY SUNROOF WAS OPEN. I WAS ABLE TO HOLD MY SPRAY OUTSIDE OF MY SUNROOF TO SPRAY IN THEIR DIRECTION AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY BECAUSE I WAS PREPARED. I AM A BIG FAN OF YOUR BRAND."

We followed up with Elaine, and asked her how this experience has impacted her life, and the life of her loved ones.
Q: How has having a Mace® Brand product helped you feel more empowered?
Elaine: "I don’t feel as vulnerable when I’m alone."
Q: Would you recommend a personal safety device to other women?
Elaine: "Yes! I’ve actually given pepper spray to women friends and relatives as gifts (my elderly aunt who lives and travels alone, and my niece who lives in a dorm and sometimes walks across campus alone at night). Both feel much more comfortable and confident that they carry something to defend themselves in case they encounter an attacker."
Q: Do you have any other advice/suggestions for those thinking about taking action to help protect themselves?
Elaine: "The advice I've given my niece is make sure you’re familiar with how to use your device before you need it. Make sure you’re carrying it as if you need to use it while you’re walking (it’s not going to help you if you need it while someone is approaching you if it’s in your purse). And always be aware of your surroundings when you’re walking (don’t look at your phone while you’re walking to and from your car, etc.). I like to have multiple canisters so I’m not always moving one around (I sometimes misplaced the one I owned). I keep one in my purse so I’ll have it when I leave the house, I keep one on my nightstand next to my bed, and I keep one by the front door in my living room."
